Professor Sujata Patel utnämns till hedersdoktor
We are delighted to announce that the Department of Sociology at Uppsala University nominated Professor Patel to the Faculty of Social Sciences for a Honorary Doctorate and that she has received this prestigious recognition for her numerous academic achievements, which is why we have asked her to give a lecture in celebration of this honorary conferment. The lecture will take place January 25th between 3:30-5 pm at Thunbergsvägen 3H, Segerstedt’s room (2-1026) and via Zoom.

Webinar on older people and the war in the Ukraine
In the capacity of co-convenor for the Gerontological Society of America’s Interest Group on International Aging and Migration, our colleague – prof. Sandra Torres – is co-hosting a mini-lecture series on the situation of displaced older people in the Ukraine in which three leading experts will participate: Dr. Igor V. Persidsky (an Ukraine-born, USA-based geriatrician); Dr. Jolanta Perek-Białas (re-known European social gerontologist based at the Jagiellonian University, Cracow in Poland) and Dr. Alistair Hunter (re-known European scholar specializing in migration and aging based at the University of Glasgow, UK).

New edited collection: Critical Gerontology for Social Workers
A new edited collection edited by one of our sociologists will be launched at this year’s European Conference on Social Work Research (ECSWR). The book is entitled Critical Gerontology for Social Workers, and is the first book focusing on social work with older people that the European Social Work Research Association’s (ESWRA) Research in Social Work Series publishes in collaboration with Policy Press. Prof. Sandra Torres (based at this department) and Dr. Sarah Donnelly (University College London) are the editors for this collection.

Anders Sundell is awarded the Zetterberg Prize for 2021
The Hans L. Zetterberg Prize in Sociology is awarded annually to young researchers from Sweden or abroad, who with their scholarly work in sociology, preferably by fruitfully combining theory and practice, have advanced the research front. The prize sum is SEK 100,000 (USD 11,000 or EUR 9,500).

The Swedish Research Council has decided that professor Sujata Patel at Indian Institute of Advanced Study, will be the holder of the 2021 Kerstin Hesselgren visiting professorship. Professor Sujata Patel will be active mainly at the Department of Sociology at Umeå University. The Department of Sociology at Uppsala University has contributed to the nomination of Sujata Patel.

Postdoktor till projektet JUSTEMOTIONS
Sociologiska institutionen söker en postdoktor till projektet JUSTEMOTIONS: The Construction of Objectivity: An international perspective on the emotive-cognitive process of judicial decision-making. Projektet finansieras av Europeiska forskningsrådet (ERC). Arbetet inbegriper att samla in data vid domstolar och åklagarmyndigheter på olika nivåer (tingsrätt och hovrätt), att sammanställa och koda ny och redan insamlad data, samt att analysera och publicera resultaten.

Erika Willander tilldelas Kungliga Vetenskaps-Societetens Benzeliusbelöning
Den 3 september 2019 tilldelades Erika Willander, verksam som forskare vid sociologiska institutionen, Kungliga Vetenskaps-Societeten i Uppsalas Benzeliusbelöning. Willander erhöll priset för sitt ”bidrag till teoribildning inom religionssociologi samt sina innovativa och sofistikerade analyser av religionens betydelse.”

CESAR (Centrum för socialt arbete) är en nyinrättad miljö vid Sociologiska institutionen, med ansvar för socionomprogrammet, forskarutbildning och forskning i socialt arbete. Denna utlysning syftar till anställning av minst en universitetslektor och är en del av en satsning på socialt arbete vid Uppsala universitet. Forskningen vid CESAR sker i nära samarbete med den miljö och de forskargrupper som finns vid sociologiska institutionen.
