About the Department of Sociology
The first Department of Sociology in Sweden was established at Uppsala University in 1947 when Torgny Segerstedt was awarded the first Chair in Sociology. The number of employees is at present about 50; professors, associate professors, researchers, post-doctoral fellows, senior lecturers, doctoral candidates and administrative staff.
There are approximately 500 undergraduate students in Sociology, Social Psychology, Sociology oriented towards Working Life, Organization and Personnel (AOP) and Sociology oriented towards Social Work.
The doctoral program usually results in five doctoral dissertations each year.
