Learning outcomes

Each student completing the course should

  • have an overview of key themes and texts of classical and contemporary economic sociology;
  • be able to understand, explain and critically examine economic sociological concepts and theories
  • be albe to carry out a critical analysis addressing both empirical and theoretical problems within the field of economic sociology.

Content

Since the mid 1980's, New Economic Sociology has turned into the one of the most vibrant fields of contemporary sociology. The aim of this course is to give an overview of both classical- and contemporary perspectives by addressing themes such as economic action and uncertainty, marketisation, networks, production, money economic value and capitalism.

Instruction

The teaching can consist of lectures, group exercises and seminars.

Assessment

The course is examined through written assignments and active seminar participation. Ranked grades are given for the course.
